Wine + Data Community Soft Launch

Consider this your invitation.

A little while ago we suggested the idea of a wine + data “support group” – a community, essentially, where people like us can go to meet and learn and share.

Who are people like us?

Wine people who are interested in data, and data people who are interested in wine.

Today we’re opening the doors on a humble effort at that online .org community, “humble” in the sense that Mike Smith and I have provided some structure and functionality based on your initial feedback that inspired three Groups:

  • CONNECT is where you’d go to meet others in this space, whether you’re looking for work or looking for someone to work for you.

  •  HOW TO features best practices and guidance from the community.

  •  ADVOCACY is where you’ll find publicly available resources and support for collaboration.

Really, though, the community belongs to you, and what you want it to be. Your contributions will raise it beyond this humble start.

Some really great examples are already there, with content that’s meant both as discussion-starters and as useful information for our daily work lives.

In the CONNECT Group, for example, Amy Gardner shares some resources for those of us who are forced by COVID to be looking for work right now.

In HOW TO, I share a new article about segmentation and the data science behind it in terms of RFM: how Recently the customer bought, how Frequently they buy, and what is the Monetary value of the transaction. Mike poses a question to initiate discussion about data and strategy.

In ADVOCACY, the current topic is standardizing wine data through solutions like LivEx’s LWIN database, “the world’s largest open-source database of wine information” and the Global Wine Database.

These are a few ideas and topics to get the ball rolling. We hope very much that you’ll participate and contribute.

Visit the site and register.

Click around to the different groups and join those that are of interest to you.

Please comment. Share helpful links and thoughts. Start discussion threads of your own.

There’s a robust storehouse of insights and talent already out there in the wine + data space.

Welcome to a place to share yours.

Thank you,

Cathy
