Knights Bridge Winery, Napa: On the Data Frontier of Ecommerce and Depletion Analysis

Knights Bridge Winery, Napa Valley, California

“On the frontier.”

That’s the phrase that comes to mind for me when I think of Enolytics’ work with Knights Bridge Winery, headquartered in Calistoga in Knights Valley.

We’d come to know the team at Knights Bridge earlier this year through their ecommerce data analysis, and then they asked the question that’s been bubbling up, and that we expect to spill over as a major theme in 2022:

“We see what you’re doing with ecommerce data, and it’s helping. Can you also work with us on our depletion data?”

Well, yes. Yes, we can.

For many wineries, distributing their wines through the three-tier system occupies the lion’s share of their resources and revenue. It makes total sense that smart leadership teams want to see the full, more comprehensive picture of where and how their wines are purchased and consumed.

That means both ecommerce AND depletion data.

“While Knights Bridge primarily focuses on our DTC Channels, distribution will always play an important role,” said Debi Neal, President and General Manager at Knights Bridge. “With this in mind, I was thrilled to see that Enolytics could support us with compiling data and providing analysis to help us make smart business decisions in the wholesale channel.

“The management of multiple distributors for a very small winery can waste valuable hours tracking down information that may be more readily available for a larger winery (and at a significantly huge cost). The set-up to get the depletions platform running takes a bit of effort but it’s well worth it. Cathy and Chris are encouraging and make the process much simpler than I would have expected. We are looking forward to seeing what 2022 will bring – less digging for data and more executing business plans to increase sales.”

For our part, it comes down to the technology.

Is it challenging to build the analytical layers that integrate with these different kinds of data? Yes.

Are there a lot of moving parts? Yes.

Is this different than how things have traditionally worked in the wine industry? Yes.

Is it worth doing? Resoundingly, yes.

It’s also exactly why Knights Bridge is “on the frontier,” and it’s exactly why I couldn’t be happier to close out our end-of-year spotlight series with Debi and her team.

The frontier of ecommerce AND depletion data analysis foreshadows a focus of our work in the year to come.

We look forward to meeting you there. More information, and the link to schedule a demo, is here.
